The Demi Drinks Cart was a project centred around a furniture piece with built in lighting. I decided on a drinks cart and as with most of my designs, I started with the most simple shape and then slowly added and cut away until I reached this design. The idea started with a simple standard two-shelf bar cart, and with some ideating I decided to split the second shelf diagonally and drop one for better display space and less crowding.
The top shelf houses hidden strip LED lighting and a battery system that links up to the subtle ON/OFF button near the handle. The drinks cart is therefore wireless to be used anywhere in the house or outside. It can then be charged up by plugging into a wall socket.
The metal shelving and panels were made from lasercut and bent mild steel, welded onto angle iron legs which were then powder-coated. Casters were added to the base for ease of movement and laminated kiaat shelves were inserted. These can be removed for cleaning or transport.
